PT Organics Limited has voluntarily recalled certain lots of its Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry 4 oz. fruit puree pouches, citing an internal packaging defect that could lead to soft plastic contamination. The Oregon-based company announced the recall via a notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday.

The defect has the potential to cause a thin, soft strand of the inner pouch material to detach when the pouch is squeezed. The company emphasized that the issue is with the packaging itself, not the fruit puree.

The recalled pouches were distributed nationwide and sold at Kroger, Meijer, and Target stores between March 6, 2026, and July 13, 2026. Consumers can identify the affected products by checking for a barcode of 8 15367 01078 0 and a lane number of 4 printed on the rear right-hand side seam. The pouches also have best-by dates of January 19 or 20, 2027; March 17 or 18, 2027; or May 14 or 15, 2027.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled product. PT Organics advises consumers or caregivers who have the affected pouches to dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase and not to consume or feed them to others.

The recall was initiated after PT Organics' packaging supplier recalled a specific production run of defective pouches. The supplier's investigation determined that the fault was intermittent and affected only one production line and one of four lanes.

PT Organics stated that this is the first such issue in their 20 years of operation and praised their supplier for quickly identifying and reporting the problem. The company is working to remove the affected products from the market and is committed to providing updated information to consumers, retailers, and regulators. They are also investigating the root cause to prevent future occurrences.

This recall follows a similar incident last year where an organic baby formula sold at Target was recalled after infants who consumed it were diagnosed with infant botulism. The manufacturer of Nara Organics Powdered Infant Formula recalled all lots out of an abundance of caution after three infants were hospitalized.
