Protests Erupt Outside NYC Hospital After ICE Agent Shoots Suspected Migrant

Anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protesters and police clashed late Thursday outside a Bronx hospital where a migrant, described by authorities as a "criminal illegal alien," was being treated after being shot by an ICE agent. Approximately 300 demonstrators gathered outside NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, chanting slogans such as "We want ICE off our streets" and "No justice, no peace."

The protest followed an agent-involved shooting earlier in the day in the Marble Hill neighborhood. The Department of Homeland Security stated that the shooting occurred during a "targeted enforcement operation."

Tensions escalated as protesters attempted to push past police barricades, leading to a physical confrontation and at least one arrest.

The individual shot was identified as a 28-year-old man from the Dominican Republic with reported ties to the Trinitarios gang. According to the DHS, the man has a criminal conviction for grand larceny and multiple prior arrests for offenses including assault, robbery, and weapons possession. The agency also stated that the man was arrested by the NYPD on December 7, 2023, but was later released due to sanctuary policies.

A 5-year-old child was reportedly in the vehicle with the man at the time of the shooting but was unharmed. The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the gunshot wound to the neck.
