Protesters Disrupt Trump Rally in San Antonio; President Responds
Demonstrators interrupted President Donald Trump multiple times during a campaign rally for Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton in Texas.
President Donald Trump's campaign rally in San Antonio, Texas, was disrupted by at least three protesters Wednesday night. The interruptions occurred within minutes of Trump taking the stage, drawing boos from the crowd and prompting responses from the president.
At one point, after a protester began yelling, Trump paused his speech to address the individual, remarking, "he's going back home to mom right now" and adding that the protester's "mom voted for Trump." He later suggested, "many of these protesters are paid."
Trump's remarks also targeted Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico, who is currently leading Republican Ken Paxton in polling for the U.S. Senate race in Texas. The president introduced an "Angel Mom," a mother who lost her son to crime committed by an undocumented immigrant, who was also seemingly interrupted by a protester.
Paxton's campaign has faced challenges not only from Talarico's lead in polls, according to The New York Times and Siena Research, but also from personal issues stemming from his ongoing divorce and a reported affair. Daily Mail has extensively covered these aspects of the campaign.
Earlier this month, audio surfaced from a private fundraising lunch where Paxton discussed factors he believed were hindering his campaign. He cited "the war, it's gas prices, it's diesel," noting that high fuel costs, with diesel exceeding $6 per gallon, impact people's finances and drive up prices for other goods.
"When it's over $6 per gallon for diesel... people are feeling the pinch," Paxton stated at the September 24th event, according to audio reported by Axios. He also acknowledged that he has "no control over gas prices." This was the third set of remarks to be leaked from that same event.
