Craig Melvin and Al Roker, hosts of NBC's "Today" show, have been granted protective orders against an individual who allegedly entered the show's studio and confronted Melvin. The orders were issued by a judge on Friday, requiring Andrew Truelove to stay away from the hosts, according to Truelove's lawyer.
Truelove was arrested on Thursday for allegedly breaching security at NBC's New York City headquarters. While inside, he reportedly asked for Al Roker. When Roker could not be located, the intruder confronted Melvin. Following the confrontation, Melvin alerted security, and Truelove was detained and subsequently arrested.
The incident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. The New York Police Department confirmed that the interaction between Truelove and Melvin in a staircase lasted approximately 8 to 10 seconds. According to police and sources, Truelove used a racial slur against Melvin during the encounter. An NYPD statement noted that an individual was taken into custody within 30 Rockefeller Center, and no injuries were reported. The investigation remains active, with charges pending.
