Production Pauses on 'The Batman Part II' Due to Director's Family Matter
Warner Bros. and DC Studios have temporarily halted filming for Matt Reeves's sequel to focus on a personal issue.
Production on "The Batman Part II" has been temporarily paused as director Matt Reeves attends to a family matter, Warner Bros. and DC Studios announced Monday. The studio stated that Reeves has their "has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon."
The filming pause comes after several delays during the script and pre-production phases. The sequel, starring Robert Pattinson, had recently begun principal photography in London this summer. It is currently slated for a February 18, 2028, release, a date that was moved from October 1, 2027, in July 2026. This followed earlier shifts from October 2026 and October 2025.
This development marks another setback for fans eagerly anticipating the follow-up to the 2022 film "The Batman," which garnered critical acclaim and box office success for its noir-inspired take on the caped crusader. While the impact of this latest delay on the film's release date remains unclear, the studio emphasized its commitment to the project and Reeves's vision.
For those disappointed by the production halt, director Matt Reeves has a notable filmography that fans can explore. His directorial career includes the 2008 found-footage horror film "Cloverfield," which established his signature style. He followed this with the 2010 vampire film "Let Me In," a remake of the Swedish hit, which received praise from critics, including Stephen King.
Reeves also helmed the critically successful "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" in 2014, the second installment in the rebooted franchise, which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects. He returned to direct its sequel, "War for the Planet of the Apes." His most recent directorial work prior to "The Batman Part II" was the 2022 film "The Batman," starring Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz, which was lauded for its dark tone and compelling narrative.
