Pro-Palestine Protestors Disrupt Ed Sheeran Concert in Philadelphia

Ed Sheeran's concert in Philadelphia on Saturday night was met with a protest outside Lincoln Financial Field, marking his first performance since opening act Macklemore was removed from the remainder of the LOOP Tour. Demonstrators voiced their stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict, with chants of "Free Palestine" and messages directed at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Groups such as the Philly Palestine Coalition and Shut Down D&Z organized the demonstration, displaying signs that read "Netanyahu has blood on his hands" and "Let Gaza live." One protestor was seen wearing a red baseball cap modified to say "Make Palestine Free Again." Video captured by FreedomNews showed one individual shouting, "F*** your concert, f*** your fans. Palestine is our demand."

The protests and surrounding controversy follow Macklemore's removal from the tour after he made remarks regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict during a September 4 and 5 performance at MetLife Stadium. Macklemore stated that Robert Kraft, owner of Gillette Stadium, had informed Ed Sheeran that Macklemore would not be permitted to perform in his venues. Kraft, through his holding company, the Kraft Group, reportedly rallied other stadium owners to present Sheeran with an ultimatum: remove Macklemore or face exclusion from their venues.

Macklemore expressed on Instagram that Sheeran was in a difficult position and hoped their 13-year friendship would endure the disagreement. He also noted that other opening acts, including Finneas, Aaron Rowe, Lukas Graham, and Sheeran's backing band Beoga, withdrew from the tour in solidarity with him.

Finneas, brother of Billie Eilish, issued a statement vowing to "stand with Palestine and its people." Actress Melissa Barrera, who was previously fired from the Scream franchise for her pro-Palestinian views, stated that seeing entertainers withdraw in support of Macklemore made her emotional and indicated a shift in the climate compared to her own experience.

Sheeran addressed the situation on Instagram Tuesday, clarifying that the decision to remove Macklemore was made by promoters, not by him. He stated he would not let down fans, touring crew, or other artists who depend on the tour for their livelihood.

Meanwhile, the controversy has appeared to impact ticket sales for Sheeran's tour. Hours before the Philadelphia show, hundreds of tickets were available on StubHub, ranging from $51 to $234 for main seating areas and $229 to $298 for pit tickets.
