Pringles Offers Die-Hard Fans a Chance to Rest in Peace (and Chips)
The snack brand is launching a unique Halloween sweepstakes with a grand prize including a custom urn and a significant cash payout.
Pringles is giving one devoted fan the chance to express their love for the snack brand even after death, with a unique Halloween sweepstakes. The promotion, dubbed "Once You Drop," invites participants to demonstrate their ultimate loyalty to the iconic potato chip.
The grand prize includes a custom-made cremation urn shaped like a Pringles can, valued at $500. The winner will also receive $28,080 in cash, which Pringles calculates as an "afterlifetime" supply of chips. This amount is equivalent to purchasing one can per week for 200 years, totaling 10,400 cans. The total prize package is valued at $28,580.
The campaign draws inspiration from the story of Fredric J. Baur, the inventor credited with designing the Pringles can. Following his death in 2008, his family honored his request to have a portion of his cremated remains interred in a Pringles Original container.
Pringles has enlisted a funeral director known as Dan the Funeral Man to promote the giveaway in a promotional video, leaning into the "dark humor" of Halloween and what the company describes as Gen Z's interest in "absurdist storytelling."
To enter the sweepstakes, fans must visit OnceYouDrop.com and sign a digital "Will and Taste-ament" affirming their dedication to the snack. According to the official rules, the pledge is not legally binding. The company advises entrants to consult with a lawyer regarding any actual burial plans.
The sweepstakes is open to U.S. residents aged 18 and older, with entries closing on October 22. A winner is expected to be drawn around October 23 and notified by Halloween.
