The Princess of Wales visited the London-based Evelina Children's Hospital, an institution dedicated to aiding critically ill children. The visit focused on drawing attention to the hospital's efforts to become London's most comprehensive, integrated children's hospital.
During her engagement, Catherine visited Edward Ward, a new cardiac center, where she met with children receiving treatment in an environment designed to be welcoming and friendly. She then proceeded to Galaxy Ward, a new outpatient unit and Children's Day Centre. This unit facilitates face-to-face cardiac clinic appointments, including diagnostic tests like echocardiograms, as well as ongoing care for children and young people with cardiac conditions.
Her final stop involved meeting members of the children's cancer program team. This team is preparing for the relocation of a specialist cancer and blood marrow transplant service. The future Children's Cancer Principal Treatment Centre, to be located at Evelina, aims to consolidate teams from across London and southeastern England, providing children with cancer access to all necessary specialist services in one location.
Plans are in motion for a new hospital building, projected for completion within the next decade. This expansion will include additional scanners, beds, and operating theaters equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The Evelina London Children's Charity is seeking to raise £100 million to support this project, and the Princess's visit is intended to help raise awareness for this fundraising effort.
The Princess's visit follows the recent release of family photographs celebrating her completion of the Three Peaks Challenge for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. In those images, she was accompanied by her husband, children, parents, and brother, James Middleton. Her brother expressed pride in her accomplishment, highlighting the healing power of nature and her strength, resilience, and determination.
The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales within 24 hours: Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon. The Princess was transported between the peaks by her team. This feat is believed to be a first for a member of the Royal Family.
