Princess Kate Wears Historic Royal Jewels for Tom Cruise Film Premiere

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, attended the world premiere of Tom Cruise's film "Digger" in London, adorned with significant historical royal jewels. She wore a striking Jenny Packham gown in a deep purple hue, described as the Grape Cutout Pleated Silk-Chiffon Gown from the designer's Fall/Winter 2016 collection.

Accompanying the gown were Jimmy Choo accessories, including the J Box Bordeaux Velvet Clutch bag and burgundy Velvet Pumps. In a tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, Kate chose the Collingwood diamond and pearl drop earrings, which were a gift to Diana before her marriage to King Charles III in 1981.

A prominent piece of Kate's ensemble was the Queen Mother's amethyst sauron necklace. This heart-shaped jewel, steeped in royal history, was previously worn by Queen Camilla at the premiere of "Skyfall" in 2012. The necklace, originally gifted by Queen Alexandra to the Queen Mother upon her engagement to the future George VI in 1923, features amethysts, diamonds, and seed pearls with a central large amethyst heart.

Prince William also attended the premiere, dressed in a velvet evening jacket and polished shoes. The couple, who had met Cruise four years prior at the UK premiere of "Top Gun: Maverick," were escorted down the red carpet by Marcus Ryder, CEO of the Film and TV Charity, and its chair, Claire Tavenier. They were greeted warmly by Cruise and filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

Tom Cruise, who is known to have a good relationship with the Prince and Princess of Wales, has spoken of his respect for them. He previously organized a special screening of "Top Gun: Maverick" for the Wales family, noting shared interests with Prince William, particularly in aviation.

"Digger" is described as a satirical black comedy where Cruise portrays an oil tycoon who causes an environmental disaster and then claims to be the only one capable of resolving it. This event marked the 73rd Royal Film Performance, an occasion that benefits the Film and TV Charity, of which King Charles is a patron. The previous Royal Film Performance was for the premiere of "Gladiator II" in November 2024, attended by King Charles and Queen Camilla.
