Princess Kate Promotes Nature-Based Recovery During Addiction Awareness Week

The Princess of Wales, Kate, participated in a morning of outdoor activities at The Forward Trust in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, as part of Addiction Awareness Week. Known for her interest in gardening, the Princess helped pot plants at the charity's new nature-based initiative, Forward Growing.

Kate, who has been a patron of The Forward Trust since 2021, wore a grey, checked Max Mara blazer, a piece she previously debuted during a visit to RAF Coningsby with Prince George. The blazer features the 'Prince of Wales' check, a nod to her husband, Prince William. She paired the jacket with a brown sweater, slim-fit black trousers, and loafers.

The Forward Trust's wellness scheme aims to encourage individuals undergoing recovery and treatment for addiction to connect with nature through weekly gardening sessions. The Princess has previously spoken about finding comfort and strength in nature, particularly during her own cancer treatment, and has celebrated its 'healing power' in her 'Mother Nature' film series.

During her visit, Kate was greeted by Mike Trace, CEO of The Forward Trust, and other staff members. The Princess, who launched the first Addiction Awareness Week in 2021 for the trust, has advocated for compassion and understanding towards those struggling with addiction. She has emphasized that recovery is possible with the right treatment and encourages open conversations to reduce the stigma associated with addiction.

This year's Addiction Awareness Week campaign, running from September 19 to 25, is focused on 'The Big Addiction Conversation,' aiming to foster honest and compassionate dialogue about addiction. The initiative seeks to address the significant number of deaths related to alcohol and drug use in the UK, with around 17,000 such fatalities annually.

The engagement comes shortly after the Princess attended the world premiere of Tom Cruise's new film, 'Digger,' in London. For that event, she wore a purple Jenny Packham gown, complemented by the Queen Mother's amethyst sauron necklace and pearl earrings belonging to Diana, Princess of Wales.
