Princess Kate Gracefully Handles Near-Tumble at Tom Cruise Film Premiere
The Princess of Wales was momentarily thrown off balance when a charity chair stepped on her gown but quickly recovered with laughter.
The Princess of Wales, Catherine, narrowly avoided a mishap at the world premiere of Tom Cruise's film 'Digger' in London. While walking the red carpet in a floor-length purple Jenny Packham gown, Claire Tavenier, chair of the Film and TV Charity, accidentally stepped on the back of Catherine's dress, causing her to briefly lose her footing.
Ms. Tavenier immediately apologized, and the Princess, appearing unfazed, broke into laughter and continued walking with confidence. Footage shared on social media captured Catherine offering Ms. Tavenier an empathetic grin and appearing to reassure her. The incident was widely praised online as a display of the Princess's grace and poise.
Catherine, 44, paired her gown with Jimmy Choo accessories and jewelry including the Queen Mother's amethyst sauron necklace and diamond and pearl drop earrings that were previously gifted to Princess Diana. Prince William also attended the event, dressed in a black velvet jacket and polished shoes.
The premiere, held in London's Leicester Square, was a star-studded affair. Catherine and Prince William were greeted by Tom Cruise, with whom they have a prior connection, having met at the premiere of 'Top Gun: Maverick' in 2022. Cruise reportedly organized a special screening of 'Digger' for the royal family due to Prince William's appreciation for the original film.
Cruise, playing a wealthy oil tycoon in the satirical black comedy 'Digger,' escorted the royal couple down the cinema steps, holding Catherine's hand. The event, hosted by Warner Bros, benefited the Film and TV Charity, which provides support to individuals working in the film, television, and cinema industries.
During the evening, the Prince and Princess of Wales met with beneficiaries of the charity, including Chloe Malone, who is undertaking a production course thanks to the organization's support. Youngsters Evie Peters and Sahrae-Lea Herbert presented Catherine and William with a posy and a program, respectively.
Notable attendees also included David Beckham and his sons, Cruz and Romeo, who posed for a brief photocall with the Princess. The last Royal Film Performance was the premiere of 'Gladiator II' in November 2024, attended by King Charles and Queen Camilla. Tuesday's event marked the 73rd Royal Film Performance in the charity's 100-year history.
