The Princess of Wales, Catherine, paused her departure from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to continue a conversation with Sir Chris Hoy, a British cycling legend diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer. The moment was captured in a video showing Prince William and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, waiting in their car.

In the footage, William, 44, led the children to the vehicle before walking around to the passenger side. However, Catherine remained engaged in her discussion with Hoy, 50, while a bodyguard stood by the car door. Royal observers noted Catherine's apparent warmth and attentiveness during the exchange.

Sir Chris Hoy, a six-time Olympic gold medalist, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2024, which has since spread to his bones. He has shared that he has between two to four years to live. Catherine, who herself has been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, previously invited Hoy to her Christmas carol concert in 2024.

The Wales family attended the penultimate day of the Commonwealth Games. Catherine wore a green Ralph Lauren blazer with a striped sweater vest from La Ligne NYC and a white skirt, accessorized with pieces from Camilla Elphick, Anya Hindmarch, Kiki McDonough, and Daniella Draper. Princess Charlotte wore a navy polka-dot dress, while Prince George and Prince Louis wore blue and white shirts. Prince William also wore a blazer.

During the games, Prince Louis, eight, was observed to be animated, biting his nails and pointing while watching the netball semi-finals. The children, George, Charlotte, and Louis, also reacted with excitement to a performance by the dancer known as Mop Man during halftime. Later, the family met with Welsh athletes and their families. Prince Louis was given the task of updating a medal table, placing a "7" sticker on the board, a task for which he was praised by his father.

The family departed Scotland with gifts, including teddy bears and Welsh cycling outfits.
