Catherine, Princess of Wales, has completed the National Three Peaks Challenge, a demanding event that involves climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales within 24 hours. The princess shared images of her family joining her, including her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, and her brother, James Middleton.
Middleton also shared an emotional post on Instagram, expressing his pride in his sister. He recounted a conversation from two years prior, where they discussed climbing mountains together during her hospital stay and the therapeutic benefits of nature. "Seeing how far you’ve come is nothing short of inspiring," he wrote. "Your strength, resilience, and determination, all while being the most amazing mother, wife, daughter, and sister, inspire me and so many others every single day."
The challenge itself involves ascending Ben Nevis (4,413ft), Scafell Pike (3,209ft), and Snowdon (3,560ft), covering a total walking distance of 23 miles with significant vertical ascent, and approximately 462 miles of driving between the peaks. The princess undertook the challenge solo, supported by Mountain Rescue on the route, with her family meeting her at the final stop.
In a message shared prior to the event, the Princess of Wales explained her motivation, stating that the challenge was "partly personal" and a way to give back and acknowledge the work of cancer support charities. She specifically highlighted The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, an organization close to her. "Cancer doesn't just affect the body. It changes how you think and feel and profoundly affects every aspect of life," she stated, referencing her own personal experience.
During the challenge, Kate met Ted Haslam, an 11-year-old paraplegic boy who was raising funds for the charity Molly Ollys. The princess visited his fundraising page and made a donation, estimated to be between £1,000 and £2,000. She spoke with Haslam and his team, offering encouragement as they completed their own challenge.
The Princess of Wales completed her chemotherapy treatment in September 2024 and was in remission as of January 14, 2025. Her brother, James Middleton, has previously spoken about his own mental health struggles and the support he received from his sisters, Catherine and Pippa, during his therapy.
