Princess Eugenie has announced the name of her newborn daughter: Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank. The child, born two weeks ago, is the daughter of Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank.
In an Instagram post, Princess Eugenie shared that the names were chosen to honor individuals whom she and Brooksbank "love and admire, past and present." She specifically mentioned the baby's great-grandmother, referring to the late Queen Elizabeth II, who is held "close in our hearts."
The name Adelaide is understood to be inspired by Queen Adelaide (1792-1849), the wife of King William IV. Princess Eugenie noted that the baby's name is also part of English and Portuguese history, reflecting the couple's time spent in both countries.
The new arrival is 15th in line to the throne. The couple's older sons, August, five, and Ernest, two, are reportedly excited to have a new sibling. This baby is the late Queen Elizabeth II's 15th great-grandchild and the third to be born since her death in 2022. She is also the fifth grandchild of Prince Andrew.
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank married in October 2018. Their first son, August, was born on February 9, 2021, followed by their second son, Ernest, on May 30, 2023. The couple divides their time between Portugal and Kensington Palace in London.
