Princess Beatrice's upcoming 38th birthday on August 8 is expected to be a subdued affair, marked by the continuing repercussions of her parents' association with Jeffrey Epstein and speculation surrounding her marriage to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, according to royal author Andrew Lownie.
Lownie, author of "Entitled: The Rise And Fall Of The House Of York," told the Daily Mail that significant changes have occurred for the York family since Beatrice's last birthday. Her father, Prince Andrew, faces potential charges and remains in Norfolk, while her mother, Sarah Ferguson, is reportedly abroad. The release of materials from Epstein's papers and other memoirs has intensified public scrutiny on the family, raising questions about the princesses' finances and their subsidized accommodation.
"Much has changed for the York family since Beatrice's last birthday," Lownie stated. He highlighted the publication of his book, Virginia Giuffre's memoir, and the ongoing release of damaging information connected to Epstein. The de-principing of Prince Andrew and his eviction from Royal Lodge, along with questions about the daughters' living arrangements, contribute to the family's challenging circumstances.
Lownie anticipates that Beatrice will scale back her birthday celebrations this year, a contrast to her extravagant 18th birthday. That event, held at Windsor Castle with an estimated cost of £400,000, featured 500 guests and was reportedly attended by figures including Harvey Weinstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Jeffrey Epstein.
Marriage and Public Scrutiny
Recent months have seen increased speculation about potential distance between Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, amid the renewed focus on Prince Andrew's past friendship with Epstein. In March, Edoardo traveled to Florida to promote his interior design studio, Banda Property, a trip that coincided with the release of the Epstein Files and sparked rumors that their relationship was strained. Sources told the Daily Mail that the couple's relationship had not been "great for a while," with Beatrice reportedly determined to persevere while Edoardo appeared increasingly distracted by work and travel.
Body language expert Judi James noted that signs of "discomfort" and "uncertainty" were present even on the couple's wedding day in July 2020. The ceremony, scaled back due to the COVID-19 pandemic with only 20 guests, was overshadowed by Prince Andrew's absence from official photographs, despite him walking Beatrice down the aisle. James observed that Edoardo appeared less assured than Beatrice, whose expressions conveyed excitement.
Beatrice's marriage to the property developer, which took place at the Chapel of All Saints on the Windsor estate, was a smaller affair than initially planned. The couple were forced to cancel larger wedding arrangements due to the pandemic. The scandal surrounding Prince Andrew had already led him to step down from public life in November 2019, prior to the wedding.
Lownie suggested that Beatrice's future within the Royal Family remains uncertain, potentially influenced by developments regarding her title, marriage, and business activities by the time her next birthday arrives. He pointed out that while Edoardo has often projected an air of regal confidence, Beatrice has sometimes appeared more wary and desirous of staying out of the spotlight, particularly as scandals surrounding her family have intensified.
