Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, showcased her dedication to enduring style by re-wearing a pale yellow floral gown that she first debuted 42 years ago. The 75-year-old royal attended the Honourable Company of Master Mariners’ Centenary Banquet at London’s Guildhall on Thursday in the vintage dress, which features a delicate pink bloom print.
The gown was originally worn by Princess Anne during a 1984 trip to Gambia. On both occasions, the royal paired the dress with white opera gloves and a coordinating yellow clutch. It remains unclear if the gold and pearl statement necklace she wore in 1984 was part of the ensemble this time.
Princess Anne attended the banquet with her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence. She participated in her capacity as Past Master of the maritime guild, accompanied by her brother, Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh.
This is not the first instance of Princess Anne championing repeat wear. In March, she wore a 57-year-old ivory coat, first donned at age 18, for a Nigerian state banquet. Earlier this month, she appeared at Royal Ascot in a pink skirt suit that she had previously worn to the races 25 years prior, in 2001.
Princess Anne has previously spoken about her philosophy on clothing, stating, "A good suit goes on forever. If it is properly made and has a classic look, you can wear it ad infinitum." She has also honored her late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, by wearing the monarch's sapphire brooch during a 2022 tour of Uganda.
