Prince William recently appeared as a surprise guest on the "New Heights" podcast, hosted by NFL stars Travis and Jason Kelce. The episode, released shortly before Travis Kelce's wedding to Taylor Swift, saw the Prince of Wales share his thoughts on the World Cup, England fans, and the possibility of the United Kingdom hosting future tournaments.
As Patron of the English Football Association, William addressed the behavior of England supporters, particularly their drinking habits. "I think you haven’t met your match until you’ve met a lot of beer drinkers from the UK," he cautioned the Kelce brothers, adding, "We can handle our own beer to anyone."
Despite years of what he described as "pain and suffering" accompanying international tournaments for England supporters, William expressed a degree of optimism for the current World Cup, stating, "I am quietly confident, I think." He also hinted at efforts to bring the World Cup or European Championship back to England. "This country particularly is mad about football," he said. "So, trying to get a World Cup to be hosted here… Or a euros here is fantastic. I’ve been trying to do a bit of work on that."
William, a known supporter of Aston Villa, has frequently attended matches with his son, Prince George, and has supported both the men's and women's national teams. He also has trophy presentation responsibilities at FA Cup finals. However, he revealed that his father, King Charles, does not share his passion for the sport. "Absolutely not. My father hates football," the Prince stated.
The conversation also touched upon the Kelce brothers' experience meeting the Royal Family. Travis Kelce recalled being nervous about meeting William and his children, Princess Charlotte and Prince George, at Wembley Stadium in 2024, where he and Swift had met the Prince. "We were so nervous to meet you guys and the royal family," Travis said, while Jason Kelce added that Princess Charlotte was a highlight for him.
William jokingly suggested he would write to Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid to secure Travis Kelce's attendance at the World Cup final should England reach it. However, Travis Kelce's immediate focus is on his upcoming NFL season and his wedding to Taylor Swift.
