Prince William Unlikely to Respond to Prince Harry's Public Reconciliation Plea
Royal expert suggests Prince William will maintain silence in response to Prince Harry's recent interview, citing a lack of direct communication since 2022.
Prince William is not expected to publicly respond to Prince Harry's recent call for reconciliation, according to royal journalist Tom Sykes. Sykes, European Editor at Large for The Daily Beast and author of The Royalist Substack, told Page Six that he would be "astonished" if William were to engage publicly.
"He never does, and his silence is itself the response," Sykes stated. He added that Harry and William have not spoken since 2022, and Harry's recent interview with GQ is unlikely to alter this dynamic.
In the interview, published Tuesday, Prince Harry expressed his desire to reconcile with his older brother, stating, "I want it to work out. Of course I do." He also alluded to external factors, suggesting that "some people don't want it to work out." However, a spokesperson for Harry clarified that these comments were made in a general context and were not directed at his family.
The rift between the brothers intensified after Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to California. Their subsequent public discussions of family matters, including Harry's 2023 memoir "Spare," have further strained their relationship. In the book, Harry recounted an alleged physical altercation with William and detailed William's reported reservations about Meghan Markle.
Despite these public disclosures, Harry's representative has denied that the Duke of Sussex intended his GQ comments as a criticism of his brother or other family members. The spokesperson emphasized that the remarks were general and not specific to his family.
Harry and Markle have recently returned to the UK, with their first official joint public appearance since their return taking place in Nottingham. While the relationship between Harry and William remains strained, Harry has reportedly taken steps to reconcile with their father, King Charles III. Prince William's office has not yet commented on the matter.
