Prince William Congratulates Harry Kane on Ballon d'Or Win

Prince William led tributes to Harry Kane following his Ballon d'Or victory, celebrating the England captain's crowning as the world's best footballer at a ceremony in London on Monday night. Kane, the striker for Bayern Munich, surpassed Kylian Mbappe of Real Madrid and Barcelona's Lamine Yamal to claim the prestigious award. This marks the first time an English player has won the Ballon d'Or in 25 years, with Michael Owen being the last Englishman to achieve this honor in 2001.

William, who has collaborated with Kane on mental health initiatives and serves as the FA's official patron, conveyed his congratulations via Instagram. "Hug congratulations to Harry Kane on winning the Ballon d'Or!" the Prince wrote. "What a fantastic achievement and so deserved. A brilliant captain, a remarkable player and someone who has given football fans across the world so many unforgettable moments."

Kane, 33, expressed his elation upon receiving the trophy at the Palladium Theatre, calling the London setting an "extra special" and "good omen." He thanked everyone who voted for him, stating he was "almost speechless."

England manager Thomas Tuchel lauded Kane's talent, asserting that the striker "deserved" formal recognition. Kane holds the record for England's most-capped player with 125 appearances and is the national team's all-time leading scorer with 91 goals. "I ran out of superlatives to describe your performances a long time ago, but I'm delighted to see that you have now been formally recognised by the football world," Tuchel commented. "To become the first Englishman to win this huge honour in 25 years makes it extra special and we are lucky to have you as our leader."

Numerous figures from the sporting world offered their congratulations. Former England players Wayne Rooney, John Terry, and Gary Neville joined in wishing Kane well on Instagram. Heung-min Son, Kane's former Tottenham teammate, described him as "deserved more than anyone." Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli also shared his happiness, praising Kane's "resilience, hard work and honesty."

During his acceptance speech, Kane paid a heartfelt tribute to his wife, Kate, acknowledging her unwavering support and sacrifices. "To my wife, Kate, my best friend. We've been through ups and downs for sure. You're my biggest supporter," he said. "This is a trophy that we celebrate, not me. This is me and you, it's all the family, all our close-knit team, so I just want to say thank you, I love you."

Kane and his wife later celebrated the victory at a London nightclub.
