Prince William Avoids Questions on Uncle's Memoir During Cinema Visit

Prince William sidestepped inquiries about his uncle Earl Spencer's newly released memoir during a visit to a community cinema in Acton, west London. The Prince of Wales was at ActOne cinema to promote the British film industry and highlight the role of independent cinemas in fostering community spirit.

The visit took place as fallout from Earl Spencer's book, 'Swan Song: Diana, My Sister,' continues. The memoir includes claims such as King Charles remarking 'we'll forget her soon enough' after Princess Diana's death and that the Earl sounded 'giddily elated' following the crash that killed her. Buckingham Palace responded to these claims by stating that 'the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason.'

As Prince William arrived at ActOne cinema, a reporter asked if he had read his uncle's book. The Prince of Wales did not respond to the question and proceeded into the building, while one onlooker shouted, 'We love you, William!'

ActOne, which opened in 2021, was established after over 100 volunteers restored a former community library. It now operates as a two-screen cinema, café, and community space with a small team of full-time staff and numerous volunteers. The venue screens a mix of blockbusters, independent British films, world cinema, documentaries, and hosts events for local filmmakers. It also offers specialized screenings for parents with babies and relaxed sessions for neurodivergent customers.

During his visit, Prince William met with the ActOne team to learn about their efforts to create a community hub. He also spoke with local young filmmakers and creators, and representatives from The Film and TV Charity about their work supporting mental health and financial wellbeing within the sector.

Later in the day, Prince William and his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, were scheduled to attend the world premiere of the film 'Digger' in Leicester Square, where they were expected to be joined by actors Tom Cruise and Riz Ahmed. This appearance follows previous engagements with Cruise, including the UK premiere of 'Top Gun: Maverick' in May 2022.
