Prince William and Catherine Surprise Rugby Star's Charity Run
The Prince and Princess of Wales made a private donation and offered words of encouragement to Kevin Sinfield, who is raising funds for Motor Neurone Disease charities.
Prince William and Catherine made a surprise visit to support rugby league star Sir Kevin Sinfield's endurance challenge for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charities. The royal couple met with Sinfield on the third day of his gruelling mission, which is set to conclude at Old Trafford in Manchester ahead of the Super League Grand Final.
"Make sure you hold yourself together for another few days," Prince William told Sinfield. The rugby star responded that he had been dreaming of an ice bath all day.
Since launching his first challenge in 2020, Sinfield has raised over £11 million for MND causes. The Prince and Princess of Wales also made a private donation to the charity effort.
Before meeting Sinfield, the royals spoke with families affected by MND, learning how fundraising initiatives have provided support. Earlier on Tuesday, the couple visited Leeds Rhinos' home ground, where they met young players and heard about the club's charitable foundation's work in health, education, and well-being projects in the Leeds area.
Jamie Jones-Buchanan, a former teammate of Rob Burrow, a prominent figure in MND advocacy, highlighted the team's resilience: "We went through success and adversity, but we always came out on the other side together."
