Prince William Admits DJ Dreams, Recounts Royal Visit DJ Attempt
The Prince of Wales revealed on The Graham Norton Show that he once aspired to be a DJ and shared an anecdote about his and the Princess of Wales's attempt at DJing in Australia.
Prince William revealed on Friday night's episode of The Graham Norton Show that he once harbored dreams of becoming a DJ. "I went through a phase of wanting to be a DJ – I wasn't very good," he told host Graham Norton.
The royal also recounted an instance from twelve years ago during a royal visit to Adelaide, Australia, where he and Catherine, the Princess of Wales, attempted DJing at the Northern Sound System. Introduced to the craft by DJ Shane Peterer, Catherine reportedly displayed a natural talent, drawing cheers from the onlookers. Peterer described her performance as "fantastic."
Prince William, however, struggled with the equipment, producing no sound initially. With some guidance from Peterer, he eventually managed to scratch a record.
William's appearance on the show, alongside guests Cate Blanchett, Robert Irwin, and Hannah Waddingham, also touched upon his Earthshot Prize initiative.
Beyond his royal duties, Prince William has shown an interest in music, having visited Symphony Studios in 2025 to discuss its importance, particularly for children. He mentioned that he himself played piano, trumpet, and drums in his youth but found memorizing tunes challenging. He emphasized the importance of music education for his own children, with Prince Louis learning the drums and Princess Charlotte learning the piano. He also humorously noted, "I spend my entire life with my fingers in my ears" in reference to Prince Louis's drumming.
The Princess of Wales also has a background in music, having played the piano since she was ten. She performed a duet with Princess Charlotte at the Together At Christmas carol service and previously provided piano accompaniment during the 2021 broadcast of the same event.
The Prince of Wales launched the Earthshot Prize in 2020, an award that offers £1 million to projects addressing environmental challenges. This year's event is anticipated to attract over 5,000 participants and will be streamed globally.
