Prince Harry Seeks Reconciliation with Prince William, Royal Author Claims

Prince Harry desires to reconcile with his estranged brother, Prince William, according to royal author Omid Scobie. However, Scobie, who has close ties to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, stated that the upcoming 30th anniversary of their mother Princess Diana's death will likely have no impact on healing the rift between them.

Scobie told an ABC News Studios documentary that Harry "made it no secret that his wish for things moving forward, not just with his father, but with his brother as well, is to reconcile." Royal observers had held out hope that the milestone, marking three decades since Diana's fatal car crash in Paris in August 1997, could serve as a catalyst for the brothers' reunion. "I can't see it making any difference, but one can always hope," Scobie added.

This comes as royal sources confirmed that William has declined several offers to appear in television documentaries commemorating the anniversary. These offers even included private discussions with BBC director-general Matt Brittin at Kensington Palace. William's decision is reportedly to avoid further conflict with Harry, who is said to be planning his own television tribute to their mother.

Scobie also commented on Harry and Meghan's recent return to the UK after six years in the United States, noting that "the reality is that the world can't stop watching." Since their arrival, the couple has been involved in a public dispute with Buckingham Palace regarding their official status. Their children have also changed schools following concerns raised by their security team about the school run.

In the same documentary, Scobie claimed that King Charles has developed a warmer relationship with the Sussexes, stating, "I think we've seen with Charles things have moved forward and that iciness has thawed out. There's a warmth there." However, he was less optimistic about Harry and William's relationship, asserting, "With William, I don't see it will ever change." Scobie also addressed speculation about Kate Middleton's role as a potential peacemaker, saying, "Kate has very little to do with that relationship between the brothers."

This situation follows Harry's comments to the BBC in May, where he expressed a desire for reconciliation with his family, stating there was "no point in continuing to fight anymore." Despite Harry's return to Britain, he and William have remained estranged, with their last reported communication occurring around the time of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022.

Harry is reportedly reaching out to Diana's friends and relatives to participate in a commemorative film. His uncle, Earl Spencer, whose memoir "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister" made allegations against King Charles concerning his reaction to Diana's death, has indicated he wrote the book to avoid becoming a mere "talking head" in such productions.

William and Harry previously appeared together in the 2017 ITV documentary "Diana, Our Mother: Her Life And Legacy," which marked the 20th anniversary of their mother's death. The Sussexes stepped down as working royals in 2020. Their relocation from California to the UK has fueled speculation, with theories ranging from strengthening the children's relationship with their grandfather to Meghan's potential return to acting or the couple seeking to increase their public profile.

Within two weeks of their arrival, reports indicated pushback from Harry and Meghan after a letter from the King was circulated to government and military stakeholders, reinforcing that the couple are "private citizens." The Sussexes were reportedly surprised by the formal letter, especially as they await a decision on taxpayer-funded security, and are said to prefer the designation of "public figures."

Schooling arrangements for Archie and Lilibet also became a point of discussion, with the children reportedly moved to a new institution after just two days of classes due to security concerns related to the school run. Meghan's friend Kelly McKee Zajfen described the Duchess's reception in the UK as "loving" and "beautiful to witness." Harry recently told Canadian network CTV that his children are "happy in school" and that it is "great" to be back in Britain.

Harry has undertaken several engagements in London and Birmingham over the past two weeks and visited New York for events last week. Meghan has not accompanied him on these engagements. The last public appearance the couple made together was at a David Foster Foundation gala in Canada on August 7.
