Prince Harry's Royal Flower-Holding Moment Resurfaces Ahead of Nottingham Visit

As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle prepare for their first official joint public appearance in the UK as private citizens, social media users have resurfaced a moment from their 2017 engagement in Nottingham. The clip shows Harry taking on the role of a royal aide, holding bouquets of flowers for his then-fiancée during their first official walkabout.

On December 1, 2017, the couple attended an event outside the National Justice Museum and Nottingham Contemporary to mark World AIDS Day. During the outing, Meghan was handed several bouquets by well-wishers. As the flowers began to accumulate, Harry stepped in, collecting the flowers and holding them behind his wife until she was ready to take them.

This moment has drawn attention in light of standard royal protocol. Typically, royal aides quickly collect gifts and flowers from senior royals. This practice ensures security checks for any hidden items and helps maintain the pace of public engagements. After being inspected, large quantities of flowers are often redistributed to charities.

Prince Harry awkwardly stood behind Meghan Markle for some time until she turned around to take the flowers from him.

In another instance, in October 2018, Harry was filmed humorously reacting to a large bouquet handed to Meghan, stating, 'You can’t give flowers that big to my wife, what is that all about?' More recently, in September 2023, Meghan was seen struggling with a royal aide over bouquets during a walkabout in Windsor following the Queen's death.

The resurfaced clip comes as Harry and Meghan are scheduled to visit Nottingham for a series of engagements. This visit marks their first joint appearance in the UK since relocating. The couple is expected to visit three charities in the city, including the Community Recording Studio, where Meghan is slated to participate in an acting workshop. This has fueled speculation about her potential return to acting and screen roles.
