Prince Harry is celebrating his 42nd birthday on September 15 in Britain, but royal experts suggest it is unlikely to usher in a grand reconciliation with his family. Despite being back in his home country for the first time in six years, experts believe that significant emotional distance remains due to unresolved issues.
Kinsey Schofield, host of YouTube’s “Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered,” told Fox News Digital that while Prince Harry will likely hear from his father, King Charles III, any celebration will probably be a private affair with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children. Schofield characterized the potential celebration as similar to what Meghan Markle has had previously, involving singing, dancing, and party hats for pets. She noted that while Harry's presence in Britain makes this birthday significant, “don’t expect some grand royal reunion. There is still far too much unresolved behind the scenes.”
Schofield added that birthdays can be a time for reflection, and Harry may feel the emotional distance from his family more acutely now that he is physically closer. She indicated that the Spencer side of the family, related to Princess Diana, appears to be more welcoming to Prince Harry.
British royal expert Hilary Fordwich echoed this sentiment, stating that a public reconciliation on Harry’s birthday is highly improbable, with any contact from the King likely being a private phone call. Grant Harrold, a former royal butler to King Charles, speaking on behalf of OLBG, suggested that celebrations would not drastically change due to his return to the UK. He speculated that Meghan would likely plan a personal meal for the occasion.
Harrold expressed that recent events, including a clarification from King Charles that the Sussexes remain private citizens, make a meeting between father and son unlikely. He called this a missed opportunity for a happy reunion, though he anticipates the King would still send cards and gifts, citing Charles's kind nature and adherence to marking special occasions.
Royal broadcaster Ian Pelham Turner commented that Harry’s birthday could have served as a positive step towards family reconciliation, but “egos have got in the way.”
Helena Chard, a British broadcaster and photographer, suggested that Harry’s birthday return is rumored to be a private event in the British countryside. She also noted that Prince Harry and King Charles’s personal relationship is said to be thawing, and believes the King will make a private call to his son. Chard expressed hope for Prince Harry to "choose peace" and for the "ebullient Prince Harry" to return.
Any public acknowledgment of Prince Harry’s birthday is expected to come from Meghan Markle’s social media rather than from Buckingham Palace, according to Chard. The couple reportedly plans to settle their family in the Cotswolds region of the English countryside.
