Prince Harry Reveals Marriage Rule: No More Than 10 Days Apart From Family

Prince Harry has revealed a fundamental rule he and his wife, Meghan Markle, adhere to in their marriage: they aim not to spend more than 10 days apart.

Speaking on the MasterClass series "Redefining Grief: Building Resilience Through Loss," Prince Harry emphasized the importance of family connection. "The biggest factor for me is the energy and the joy and happiness that I get being with my family, especially our kids, and the joy and happiness I get by being on the ground for my work," he stated.

He further elaborated on the challenge of balancing his professional endeavors with his role as a father and husband. "The key to finding the joy and happiness balance is no more than 10 days away from my wife and kids," Harry said, referring to their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. "This is balancing my work and the purpose behind that as well as being a dad and a husband and the sort of multi-identity elements coming together."

In the same MasterClass appearance, Harry also reflected on his mental health following the family's departure from the United Kingdom in late 2019. He described experiencing a significant "adrenaline crash" after moving to Canada with Markle and their son, Archie, which led to a period of depression. "I actually slipped into depression for about two weeks and I felt like I couldn’t function without adrenaline," he recounted, explaining that he felt he had become "useless around the house" without the physical and emotional stress he had become accustomed to.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who married in May 2018, welcomed Archie in May 2019 and their daughter, Lilibet, in June 2021. The couple announced their decision to step back from royal duties in January 2020 and subsequently relocated to the United States. More recently, they have returned to the UK, reportedly to be closer to Prince Harry's father, King Charles III, who is undergoing cancer treatment.
