Prince Harry Reportedly 'Wooing' Earl Spencer for Princess Diana Documentary

Prince Harry is reportedly seeking to enlist his uncle, Earl Spencer, for a documentary about Princess Diana, with royal journalist Tom Sykes suggesting that Prince Harry is attempting to "woo" his uncle for the project. Sykes believes that Spencer's involvement would lend credibility to the documentary, a key factor for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as they allegedly work on the film.

Sykes told Page Six that he suspects a financial motivation behind Prince Harry's efforts to align with Spencer. "There is no denying [Spencer] is a big name, and he will give the documentary credibility. So [the Sussexes] need to woo him and get him onside," Sykes claimed. He added that Spencer could be positioned as the "star" of the documentary.

This alleged outreach follows Spencer's recent publication of his book, "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister," which details his accounts of Princess Diana's experiences. Sykes noted that Prince Harry's team may have subtly signaled support for Spencer during the book's release, pointing to a swan emoji posted by Markle's account, As Ever, during the same week. Spencer himself stated that Prince Harry was "completely fine" with his book.

Sykes speculated that the documentary could frame Prince Harry as "the true inheritor of Diana’s legacy," portraying him as someone who bravely stood against a "cruel and heartless royal family." He estimated that the "overall goal here [for Harry and Markle] is tens of millions of dollars."

While acknowledging parallels between Harry's criticisms of the monarchy and Diana's treatment, Sykes also noted that many in the UK view his continued resentment as "absurd" given his privileged background. The public statement made by King Charles III regarding Spencer's book was described by Sykes as "unprecedented" and indicative of how seriously the risk is being perceived.

Earlier reports from The Telegraph indicated that Prince Harry had been approached by Spencer and some of Diana's friends about participating in a film honoring the 30th anniversary of her death. The project, potentially produced by Archewell Productions and acquired by Netflix, remains unconfirmed. A source told the outlet that Harry is "still considering the most meaningful way to honor her legacy during this important anniversary year" and is exploring multiple project options.

Princess Diana died on August 31, 1997, at the age of 36. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the UK from California earlier this year, reportedly considering a film about Diana as part of their reasons for the move. King Charles III has stated that the couple will not resume official royal duties as they remain private citizens.
