Prince Harry Discusses UK Move: Prioritizing Children's Education and Family Proximity
The Duke of Sussex reveals his motivations for returning to the UK with his family, emphasizing the importance of British schooling and closeness to relatives.
Prince Harry has shared his reasons for relocating back to the United Kingdom with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The move, which occurred in August, was driven by a desire to create new opportunities for the family, particularly concerning the children's education.
"Being able to put the kids in a British school has meant a lot to me," the Duke of Sussex stated in a recent interview. He expressed that he hadn't fully realized the significance of this until recently. "I always thought it was gonna be something that I would try and do or that we would try and do, but now they’ve been in school for two weeks."
Prince Archie, aged 7, and Princess Lilibet, aged 5, are reportedly enjoying their new educational environment and experiencing a different cultural perspective. Harry noted that he believes it is important for children to have varied cultural experiences, clarifying that this was not a criticism of American schools.
Another key factor in the decision to return to the UK was the desire to be closer to his family. Harry has spoken about his estrangement from his father, King Charles III, and his brother, Prince William.
"But yeah, to be back closer to my family and to be back on UK soil for longer than a few days or a week here or there, you know? So, it’s nice to be back," he said.
Since their return, the family has been settling in, enjoying time with friends and their children. Harry mentioned the benefit of having "endless playdates to really help our kids settle in."
The Sussexes' move back to the UK marks their return more than six years after they stepped back from royal duties and relocated to North America. Although Harry has a strained relationship with some family members, reports indicate he desired to be nearer to King Charles III, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment.
Prior to this interview, the couple had made their first official joint appearance since returning to the UK in Nottingham. They visited a food bank and participated in local community events.
