Prince Harry Becomes Emotional Discussing Children's Peace, Amid Royal Estrangement

Prince Harry has spoken about the deep emotional impact of seeing his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, "at peace with each other," a sentiment he shared during an interview that also touched upon his ongoing estrangement from his brother, Prince William.

In an interview with neuroscientist Dr. Mary-Frances O'Connor, the Duke of Sussex became visibly moved when reflecting on a photograph of his son, Archie, seven, and daughter, Lilibet, five. The image, shared by his wife Meghan Markle on Instagram in May to mark Archie's birthday, depicted the siblings walking barefoot on a beach. Harry described the scene as one that "fills my heart" and expressed his joy that the children are "healthy, beautiful, amusing, and very funny kids."

He revealed that he captured the photograph shortly before Archie's birthday. Harry, who has reportedly not spoken to Prince William since Queen Elizabeth's funeral in 2022, stated that witnessing his children "brother and sister, at peace with each other in nature fills my heart." He characterized fatherhood as an "emotional rollercoaster" and admitted he wished he had known how challenging it would be, though he would not change it.

These comments were made in a video for the American education platform MasterClass, titled "Redefining Grief: Building Resilience Through Loss." The Duke also discussed feeling "depressed and 'useless'" following his and Meghan's departure from royal duties, a period he referred to as "Megxit." He indicated that he now adheres to a strict "ten-day rule," ensuring he does not spend more than ten consecutive days away from his wife and children to maintain his well-being.

Harry reflected on his past struggles with grief, suggesting that his role within the Royal Family prevented him from properly processing the death of his mother, Princess Diana. He described official duties as triggering panic attacks and making him feel suffocated.

He recounted experiencing an "adrenaline crash" after the family relocated to Canada in 2020 seeking space, initially feeling "useless" and falling into a depression for two weeks. He found that his brain seemed to require stress to function during that period.

Meghan Markle has also recently shared glimpses of their family life. She posted a video on Instagram showing Archie and Lilibet riding scooters on a country lane, accompanied by their dog, Pula, and a herd of deer. Additionally, Meghan partnered with the charity Moms Offering More (MOM) on a limited-edition sweatshirt, with all net profits intended to support single mothers. She also announced a collaboration with the Malala Fund, donating profits from her As Ever teas and jams to support girls' education.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are scheduled to undertake several unofficial engagements in the East Midlands, including visits to community food projects and charities. Despite their increased activity in the UK, they have not yet met with King Charles and remain estranged from the Prince and Princess of Wales. Reports suggest the Sussexes plan to spend the Christmas holiday with Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, anticipating they will not be invited to Sandringham for the traditional royal gathering.
