Prince Harry arrived in the United Kingdom for a five-day visit, beginning his engagements by attending a film premiere in London. His first public appearance was in support of his friend Misan Harriman, chairman of the Southbank Centre, who has faced accusations of anti-Semitism over past online posts. Harriman maintains his words have been taken out of context and has stated his solidarity with the Jewish community.
Harry's visit commenced with a dispute over accommodation at Buckingham Palace. He had hoped to stay at the palace, but royal officials informed him that the offer was no longer available due to a delay in his acceptance. According to a statement from Harry's spokesperson, the offer was withdrawn at the last moment, citing a recent legal judgment. The spokesperson noted that Buckingham Palace was aware of this judgment prior to Harry formally accepting the accommodation offer.
The Duke of Sussex flew into the UK from a European holiday with his wife Meghan Markle and their children, Archie and Lilibet. Initially, Harry had hoped his family would accompany him, but it was later announced they would not be joining him in London due to security concerns. Harry's spokesperson stated that the decision not to provide security for his family led the Duke to make alternative arrangements.
Harry's itinerary includes several engagements, many connected to the Invictus Games, which he founded. He is scheduled to support other charitable causes, including Wellchild and Scotty’s Little Soldiers. The visit also marks one year until the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.
While in the UK, Harry is reportedly keen to see his father, King Charles III, although the timing and possibility of a meeting remain uncertain. The King is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Harry and his children have not seen the King since the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. It is not yet confirmed if Meghan, Archie, or Lilibet will join Harry for any part of his UK visit outside of London.
Meanwhile, King Charles appeared in good spirits while riding in a British Army Challenger 3 battle tank in Dorset on the same day of his son's arrival. The Duke of Sussex's visit comes after a period of public criticism of the Royal Family by Harry and Meghan following their step back from royal duties.
