Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to Skip Christmas With Royal Family Amidst Ongoing Feud
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not join King Charles III and other royals for traditional holiday celebrations, opting instead for alternative arrangements.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not be participating in the royal family's traditional Christmas celebrations this year, a decision attributed to the ongoing tensions between the Sussexes and Harry’s relatives. A source confirmed to Page Six that the couple has no plans to join King Charles III, Prince William, and the rest of the family at Sandringham for the holidays.
Instead, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly considering spending the holiday period at their current accommodation in Northamptonshire, England, or returning to their home in California. Meghan Markle's mother, Doria Ragland, is expected to be with them regardless of their chosen location.
This decision comes amid a documented rift between Prince Harry and his family, stemming from his and Markle's decision to step down as senior working royals in 2020. The couple subsequently relocated to California, and have since shared personal grievances in public forums, including their 2022 Netflix docuseries "Harry & Meghan" and Harry's 2023 memoir, "Spare."
The news follows recent reports from royal experts dismissing claims that Harry and Markle were planning to apologize to Prince William and Kate Middleton to mend their long-standing feud. Tension between Harry and William, in particular, is said to remain high, with the brothers reportedly not on speaking terms.
Earlier in the year, reports indicated that Harry and Markle were planning an extended stay in the UK with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. This potential return to Harry's home country marks a significant period, occurring six years after their departure from royal duties, a move widely dubbed "Megxit."
Sources close to the couple had previously suggested that their neighbors in Montecito were pleased by the prospect of the Sussexes establishing a more permanent base in Britain, anticipating a return to a quieter environment.
