The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the 40th anniversary celebration of the David Foster Foundation in Victoria, British Columbia, on Friday night. Prince Harry and Meghan posed with the Grammy Award-winning composer, 76, and his wife, actress and singer Katharine McPhee, 42, at the event.
David Foster, who is one year younger than King Charles, played a role in assisting the Sussexes after they stepped down as senior royals in January 2020. He helped them secure a Canadian residence before their move to California.
In May 2020, McPhee described Foster's relationship with Prince Harry as akin to a "father and son" dynamic. She explained that Foster, whom she called the "resource guy," used his connections to help the couple find a $14.1 million mansion in North Saanich, near Vancouver, where they spent their first Christmas with Archie and Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland.
Foster stated he felt honored to assist Meghan, noting Canada's Commonwealth ties. He added that he was happy to facilitate a "respite" for the couple, allowing them time to rest and "reinvigorate." He also mentioned he connected them with a friend who owned the property, and was unsure if the couple was paying rent.
McPhee and Meghan share a past connection, having attended the same Catholic school, Immaculate Heart, in Los Angeles. McPhee recalled participating in school musicals with Meghan, though she noted they were not close friends. She recently shared an Instagram post referencing their shared childhood experiences in musicals.
In earlier reports, Foster was said to have planned a low-key birthday celebration for Prince Harry at his Los Angeles home. He also reportedly offered to host the couple's Christmas in 2020, though Meghan and Harry ultimately chose to host at their own home.
David Foster has had a prolific career, earning 16 Grammy Awards and 45 nominations over four decades. His extensive family includes five biological daughters and five stepchildren, among them model Gigi Hadid and reality television personalities Brody and Brendan Jenner.
