Prince George is set to begin his studies at Eton College this fall, marking a significant transition that will include a private bedroom, shared common spaces, and new security considerations, according to royal expert Kinsey Schofield.

Unlike many boarding school experiences, Eton students typically do not share rooms. Prince William and Prince Harry also had individual study bedrooms during their time at the school. Schofield stated that having a private space will offer Prince George a place to decompress away from the constant public scrutiny that comes with his position as a future monarch. However, she added that Eton's house system is designed to foster community, with students sharing kitchens, common rooms, and meals, ensuring George will still be immersed in a social environment.

Athletics are expected to play a role in Prince George's social integration, mirroring his father's experience at Eton. Schofield anticipates that Prince George, who has reportedly shown an athletic aptitude, will likely participate in sports. Soccer is a strong possibility, given Prince William's known passion for the sport and the shared interest between father and son. There is also speculation that rugby could be an option, with Kate Middleton having previously remarked on George's build for the sport. Schofield noted that sports can provide an environment where the future heir can simply be part of a team.

A significant challenge for Prince George that his father did not face at Eton is navigating social media. Schofield highlighted that protecting privacy in an era where information can spread rapidly online will be a key security concern. While physical security measures will be in place, they are expected to be sophisticated and discreet to avoid drawing attention, a philosophy also employed when Prince William attended. The focus will be on safeguarding against digital exposure from sources like drones and social media.

The proximity of Eton College to the royal family's home, Forest Lodge, is also noted as a factor that will ease Prince George's transition. Being just minutes away means home will not feel distant, allowing him to potentially spend a great deal of his free time with his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and parents. This arrangement is expected to offer Prince George a balance between boarding school independence and the comfort of nearby family.
