Prince Andrew has been awarded 302,000 pounds, equivalent to approximately $400,000, in compensation after surrendering his lease on the Royal Lodge, The Crown Estate announced Friday.
King Charles III had ordered his younger brother to vacate the 30-room mansion, located near Windsor Castle, earlier this year. The decision followed mounting public pressure and the release of U.S. Department of Justice documents related to the investigation into sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, with whom Andrew had associated.
The Crown Estate manages lands owned by the monarch on behalf of taxpayers. In February, Prince Andrew moved from the Royal Lodge to a residence on the King's private Sandringham estate, leaving the property sooner than anticipated.
