Prince Andrew Receives £300,000 Payout After Early Lease Surrender of Royal Lodge
The former Duke of York is reportedly entitled to a significant sum as he vacates the Windsor residence.
Prince Andrew has received approximately £300,000 following the early termination of his lease on the Royal Lodge, a 30-room mansion on the Windsor estate. The Crown Estate, which oversees the property, announced the compensation figure, stating that the tenant is entitled to "circa £302,000" for surrendering the lease in October 2026.
The former Duke of York had occupied the residence for over two decades, paying a nominal "one peppercorn (if demanded) per annum" rent, a rate significantly below market value. The Crown Estate, an independent commercial body that directs profits to the Treasury, noted that the lease's return more than 50 years ahead of schedule allows for "additional value [to] be generated much sooner than expected."
Andrew had reportedly paid £1.8 million for "dilapidations" related to the property. When accounting for the £300,000 he was owed, the net amount received by the Crown Estate is approximately £1.5 million.
The arrangement for Royal Lodge, situated on 98 acres of Windsor Great Park, has been a subject of public discussion, particularly in light of Prince Andrew's eviction from the mansion in February of this year. His departure was linked to his past associations with Jeffrey Epstein.
