Prince Andrew May Be Called to Testify in High Court Fraud Case

Prince Andrew, the former Duke of York, may be required to give evidence in the High Court as part of a fraud case, a judge ruled on Friday.

The High Court has permitted a former Goldman Sachs banker to call upon the Duke of York for testimony. Andrew is not accused of any wrongdoing in the case, which centers on allegations that the banker, Selman Turk, defrauded an elderly Turkish millionairess, Nebahat Isbilen. Mrs. Isbilen claims she was conned into giving a significant portion of her fortune to the former Duke and his family.

According to claims within the High Court case, Mr. Turk allegedly stole millions from Mrs. Isbilen. The York family became involved when Mr. Turk reportedly arranged payments totaling £350,000 to Andrew, £225,000 to the Duchess of York, £25,000 to Princess Eugenie, and a £750,000 gift intended for Princess Beatrice's wedding. Some or all of these payments were reportedly processed through a company named Alphabet, associated with a Mr. Gleave.

There has been no suggestion of any wrongdoing on the part of the York family. In 2023, they reached an agreement with Mrs. Isbilen to repay an undisclosed sum of money. Mr. Turk had previously won an award at Prince Andrew's initiative, Pitch@Palace.
