Prime Minister Andy Burnham is set to make history as the first sitting Prime Minister to feature on Channel 4's popular television show, Gogglebox. He will appear in a special episode airing Friday night as part of the Stand Up To Cancer charity campaign.

Burnham will be joined by Liverpool City Region mayor Steve Rotherham, a longtime political ally, in a segment filmed at Downing Street. The program's teaser introduces them as "good friends Andy and Steve" as they offer their reactions to various television programs.

During the show, Burnham is seen offering Rotherham a selection of snacks, including Skips, pork scratchings, and Twiglets. "Twiglets are probably the best aren't they?" Burnham remarks. Rotherham, already possessing a packet of Quavers, expresses a preference for Skips, asking, "Are they prawn cocktail?"

The special episode will also feature appearances from the Sugababes and comedian Joe Lycett, alongside the show's regular cast.

This is not the first time a Labour leader has appeared on Gogglebox for charity. In 2017, Jeremy Corbyn participated in a similar special, teaming up with actress Jessica Hynes. During his appearance, Corbyn shared his fondness for coddled eggs and commented on Nigella Lawson's method of separating egg whites.

Other political figures who have previously appeared on Gogglebox include Stanley Johnson, father of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and Alastair Campbell, Tony Blair's former spin chief. Reform UK leader Nigel Farage also appeared on a spin-off show in 2014.

Stand Up To Cancer is a collaborative national fundraising initiative between Cancer Research UK and Channel 4. The Gogglebox special for the campaign is scheduled to air on Channel 4 this Friday, October 23, at 9:05 PM.
