Presley Gerber, son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, was lauded by his family for his courage in seeking controversial addiction treatment six months prior to his death at age 27. His passing on Sunday followed a prolonged struggle with drug use, panic attacks, and mental health challenges.

In March, Presley shared his experience at a clinic in Mexico where he underwent a 'Pre Ibogaine Flood Dose.' This treatment involves a single, high-dose administration of ibogaine, a psychoactive substance derived from an African shrub, which is reported to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms and reset brain pathways. The process is designed to induce a profound psychoactive and physiological reset.

Ibogaine is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance and is illegal in the United States. However, it is legal or permitted by prescription in countries like Canada and Brazil, and is utilized in specialized clinics in Mexico. Presley documented his experience at Beond Ibogaine in Cancun, praising the clinic's staff. Treatment at this facility begins at $12,500 for a 10-day program.

Presley described the flood dose experience as one where he was 'absolutely terrified' but knew he had to face what he had been running from. He posted, "facing what’s hard takes real strength and watching you find your way back to yourself is everything. I love you so much." His family offered public support, with Cindy commenting, "You are a warrior! Walked thru the fire to find yourself! So proud!" Kaia added, "that’s my brother I am so damn proud," while Rande wrote, "I’m so proud of you and your courage."

He had previously spoken candidly about his mental health, revealing in November that he was taking a break from social media to focus on his well-being. A month later, he disclosed his medication regimen, which included Buprenorphine for panic attacks and night terrors, along with benzodiazepines, noting fluctuations in their use due to life events and his experience with loss. He expressed frustration with a lack of clear direction from the numerous psychiatrists he had seen regarding his medication.

His sister, Kaia Gerber, reflected on how her brother's struggles impacted the family, telling Vogue that his honesty was "refreshing." She noted that while her parents were private, Presley chose to be "very human for everyone," which she found to be a valuable lesson.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office confirmed Presley's death, which occurred at a rehabilitation facility. The specific cause of death has not been disclosed.
