The death of Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, is being investigated as a suspected overdose. Gerber died at a Los Angeles rehab facility on Sunday, September 20, according to reports. His death occurred after he had checked into the facility the night prior.
Sources close to the investigation told TMZ that Gerber was found in a bedroom at the rehab house. While his body was not on the bed, it was located nearby in the room. The Santa Monica Police Department confirmed that officers responded to a report of a possible overdose and found an adult male deceased. Detectives are investigating the death as a suspected overdose, with no current indication of foul play. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has not yet determined the official cause of death, pending toxicology reports.
While initial 911 dispatch audio indicated "cardiac arrest" followed by "overdose," sources also told TMZ that fentanyl has not been a focus of the investigation at this time. Reports also emerged that a physician had been prescribing Gerber ketamine, a drug he had previously struggled with, despite knowing his history of addiction. Friends of Gerber are reportedly angered by this, according to TMZ.
Gerber had been open about his decade-long struggle with drug addiction and mental health issues. Earlier this year, he documented his experience with an "Ibogaine flood dose" at a treatment clinic in Mexico, a procedure he described as terrifying but ultimately helpful in his recovery journey. In the midst of this tragedy, Kaia Gerber's beloved cat, Tony, went missing just days after her brother's death. Kaia's actor boyfriend, Lewis Pullman, along with friends such as director/photographer Carissa Gallo and influencer Jake Shane, were seen putting up "lost cat" signs throughout their Los Angeles neighborhood. Their efforts were successful, and Tony was found safe approximately nine hours after being reported missing. Pullman and Gerber have been romantically linked since January 2025.
