Premier League Player Thierno Barry's Home Burgled During Match

Premier League player Thierno Barry and his partner experienced a "distressing and violating" burglary at their home on Thursday night, while Barry was competing for Everton in their Carabao Cup victory against Newcastle. The incident occurred shortly after the couple had posted a video online featuring a collection of designer handbags from their walk-in wardrobe.

Charlene, Barry's girlfriend and the mother of their one-year-old daughter, shared the news on her Instagram story, appealing for any information that could help apprehend the perpetrators. "Unfortunately, our home was burgled this evening while we were at the football match," she wrote. "Thankfully, nobody was home at the time, but this is still an extremely distressing and violating experience for us and our family." She added that they are willing to offer a financial reward for information leading to the identification of those responsible.

It is believed the thieves may have been aware of Barry's absence, as both he and his partner were away from home for the match. The burglars might have been motivated by the high-value items visible in a TikTok video Charlene posted last month, which showed her dancing with designer handbags in their walk-in closet. The security of footballers' homes is frequently compromised, as criminals exploit their known schedules during matches.

Everton's rivals, Liverpool, have seen numerous players fall victim to similar crimes. Past instances include burglaries targeting Sadio Mane, Dejan Lovren, Steven Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt, Pepe Reina, Robbie Keane, and Lucas Leiva. Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy were burgled on two separate occasions, and Roberto Firmino's home was raided in 2017, resulting in the theft of jewelry, watches, and clothing valued at £70,000. Another Everton player, Phil Jagielka, endured a particularly severe ordeal in 2009 when an armed gang held him at knifepoint and forced him to open his safe.

Barry scored for the Toffees in their 3-1 victory over Newcastle on Thursday night

Barry played the full 90 minutes for Everton and scored in their 3-1 victory over Newcastle in the Carabao Cup fourth-round clash on Thursday evening, prior to learning about the burglary. The team is scheduled to face Fleetwood in the next round. Separately, Manchester City loanee Jack Grealish was not part of the matchday squad due to a breach of club discipline, as confirmed by the club in a social media statement.
