A pregnant woman carrying twins survived a harrowing highway incident on Saturday when a metal pole, dislodged from a truck ahead, penetrated her van’s windshield and struck her abdomen. The driver, Lesley Herrera, was traveling northbound on the I-15 in California around 2 p.m. when the object pierced the second-to-right lane of her Ram ProMaster.
Miraculously, Herrera and her unborn twins sustained only minor injuries. She was able to drive herself to the nearby Southwest Healthcare Rancho Springs Hospital, and authorities reported that the twins were doing well.
Photos from the scene depicted the van's severely shattered windshield, with the metal pole having entered through a hole in the center of the fractured glass. The dashboard was covered in glass fragments.
The incident drew comparisons on social media to the horror movie franchise Final Destination, which features characters who die in elaborate, seemingly accidental accidents. This event occurred shortly after another pregnant California mother, also carrying twins, was killed on June 27. In that separate incident, a driver allegedly ran a stop sign and broadsided her vehicle in San Bernardino County, resulting in her death and the loss of her unborn twins.
