Portnoy Accuses Williams of Spreading Disinformation After Mocking Injury

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has accused Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams of spreading false information about him, escalating a public dispute that began after Portnoy mocked Williams' hamstring injury. The exchange highlights a clash between the media personality and the NFL star on social media.

During an episode of 'Wake Up Barstool,' Portnoy referred to Williams as a "thespian," suggesting the quarterback exaggerated the severity of his injury. "The man tweaked his hammy and acted like both ACLs, MCLs, everything else [were torn]," Portnoy stated. "He tweaked his hammy. What are we doing here?" Portnoy further commented that Williams' reaction was "a little bit much," claiming he himself had "a bigger issue with my tooth than he had."

In response, Williams re-tweeted a fan's comment criticizing Portnoy. The fan's comment inaccurately claimed Portnoy was responsible for getting a college student expelled from school. This tweet referenced an incident in November 2025 in Starkville, Mississippi, where a man threw coins and made antisemitic remarks at Portnoy during a pizza review near the Mississippi State University campus. The man, identified as Patrick McClintock, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor disturbing the peace. He subsequently withdrew from the university.

Upon seeing Williams' re-tweet, Portnoy addressed the Bears quarterback directly on social media, posting a screenshot of the action and refuting the claim. "I woke up to Bears Qb @CALEBcsw spreading disinformation about me. I didn't get anybody arrested or kicked outta school," Portnoy wrote. He added, "That moron threw s*** at me on camera in the middle of a pizza review and it went viral. Play stupid games win stupid prizes."

Despite the confrontation, Portnoy stated he would not hold the incident against Williams, acknowledging him as an "emotional guy and in his feelings after tweaking his hammy." Portnoy concluded by expressing his support for Williams and the Bears, stating, "I am rooting for him and all of Chicago. I can't wait to see 18 back on the field this week after that season ending injury. When they go low I go high! Go Bears!"

Williams was carted off the field during a recent game against the Minnesota Vikings. Initial concerns about a serious injury were later allayed when it was reported that he had only strained his hamstring. The Bears have not yet confirmed Williams' availability for their upcoming game against the Philadelphia Eagles, but coach Ben Johnson indicated the quarterback would "likely miss time."
