Popular CBS TV Host Departs Abruptly Months After Comeback
Dagmar Midcap has vanished from screens after a brief return to Atlanta, 15 years after fleeing the city following her boyfriend's death.
Popular television meteorologist Dagmar Midcap has reportedly left CBS Atlanta after less than a year on air, with no public explanation for her sudden departure. Midcap, who returned to Atlanta in late 2025 after more than 15 years away, stopped appearing on television screens in May, and her profile has since been removed from the station’s website.
Neither Midcap nor the station has publicly commented on the reasons for her exit, fueling speculation about the circumstances. This departure is particularly notable given the hopes surrounding her return to the city, a homecoming that followed years of rebuilding her career after a significant personal tragedy.
Midcap first joined CBS 46 (formerly WGCL-TV) in Atlanta in 2008. Her engaging personality and on-screen charisma quickly made her a viewer favorite, leading to her appearance on promotional billboards. However, behind her public persona, Midcap was experiencing a period of profound loss. In 2010, she left both the station and Atlanta after her boyfriend died by suicide. At the time, she cited feeling "haunted by his presence in the city" and the need to relocate.
She then moved to Los Angeles for a year before settling in San Diego, where she worked at NBC 7 for 12 years. During her time in San Diego, she also focused on environmental issues, climate change, and animal rights. In 2024, she began traveling internationally to document illegal animal trafficking, maintaining Atlanta as her home base during these trips.
When CBS launched a new Atlanta news operation on WUPA-TV, Midcap was chosen as the evening meteorologist. This move offered her a chance to return to a familiar city while joining a new team. She had expressed enthusiasm about the new operation, noting the positive culture cultivated by the station's leadership in an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in March.
During her earlier interview, Midcap acknowledged facing some challenges with the augmented-reality technology introduced with the new CBS Atlanta launch, but expressed hope for improvements. There has been no public indication that these technical concerns were directly linked to her departure. She had also spoken of her desire to contribute beyond weather reports, leveraging her experience in conservation and animal welfare.
However, during her tenure on air in Atlanta, her role remained focused on weather forecasting. The exact reasons for her departure remain unclear.
Midcap's most recent social media posts on Facebook and Instagram feature her engaging with wildlife during her travels abroad, showcasing her passion for wildlife and travel outside of her broadcasting career. It remains publicly unknown whether she intends to return to television, continue her conservation work, or pursue other avenues.
CBS Atlanta has since transitioned to Orelon Sidney, a former CNN and Weather Channel meteorologist, to present the weather during its 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts.
