Pooches Make a Splash at Doggy Dip Event
Hundreds of dogs and their owners enjoyed a special swim session at a heated public pool before it closed for winter.
Hundreds of playful dogs and their owners gathered for a special swim event at a heated public pool in Gourock, Renfrewshire. The event, dubbed the "Doggy Dip," offered a unique opportunity for canine companions to enjoy the water before the facility closed for the winter.
More than 200 dogs participated in the one-day event, taking advantage of the warm water. Facilities manager Mark McFarlane initiated the Doggy Dip sessions in 2019, and they have since grown in popularity. This year, all available sessions sold out, with an estimated 240 people and 240 dogs in attendance throughout the day.
"It's certainly grown in size – initially, we had one swim at the end of the season, but we’ve now expanded," McFarlane stated. He added that while some dogs are initially nervous, most enjoy the experience once they are in the water.
Among the attendees was Cathy Murray with her dog, Guinness. "He quite enjoys the swim – and this is great for me because the water’s warm," Murray commented.
