Polymarket Halts International Trading Amid Security Incident
The prediction market platform resumed trading after approximately one hour, promising full reimbursement to affected users.
Polymarket, a prediction market platform, temporarily suspended trading on its international platform Thursday due to a security incident involving a third-party provider. The pause lasted for about an hour before trading resumed Thursday afternoon.
The company stated it halted trading "out of an abundance of caution" after identifying and resolving the issue. Polymarket has committed to fully reimbursing any traders impacted by the incident. The company has also referred the matter to a law enforcement agency in the United Kingdom.
Reports indicate the security incident may be linked to DebugBear, a UK-based company that provides website performance monitoring tools. DebugBear's own website was inaccessible Thursday afternoon, and the company posted on X that it was "impacted by an ongoing security incident." DebugBear advised its clients to remove embed code from their websites if they were using one of its products and did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
It remains unclear the extent to which Polymarket traders were affected by the incident, but the company reiterated that anyone impacted would be compensated.
