Police Urge Mother of Newborn Found on Shoreline to Contact Them

North Wales Police are urgently seeking the mother of a newborn baby girl whose body was discovered on a shoreline, urging her to come forward to receive support. The body was found by a member of the public on Sunday near Siliwen Road in Bangor, Gwynedd, along the Menai Strait.

In an update provided on Thursday, police confirmed through a post-mortem examination that the infant was a girl and may have been in the water for up to several weeks. Superintendent Llinos Davies stated that a specialist officer is available to take the mother's call, emphasizing that she will be treated with compassion, dignity, and respect. "We understand that you may be scared to come forward, but we urge you to contact us," Davies said. "I want to reassure you that your welfare and safety continues to be our priority and utmost concern and that you receive any medical attention and support you may need."

Fiona Giraud, director of midwifery and women's services for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, also made a direct appeal to the mother.

Police are concerned that the mother may not be in a position to seek help independently and are appealing not only to her but also to the father and anyone who may have knowledge of the situation, such as friends, family, neighbours, or colleagues. Davies assured that any information provided would be handled with the utmost discretion and asked the public not to speculate.

Investigators are asking for anyone who regularly walked in the Siliwen Road and Ashley Fields areas of Bangor between August 30 and September 27 to come forward. They are also requesting that any photographs or videos taken along the Menai Strait shoreline in Siliwen during the same period be uploaded to the force's major incident public portal.
