Police are urgently seeking the mother of a newborn baby girl who was found dead on an industrial estate. The grim discovery was made by staff at a private waste management firm in Rowley Regis on Thursday, shortly before noon.
Detectives believe the infant, thought to be a girl, was unknowingly transported to the warehouse on Station Road sometime on Wednesday. The waste management company has been ruled out as being involved in the baby's death. The circumstances surrounding the baby's death are currently under investigation, with forensic examinations underway.
West Midlands Police Detective Chief Inspector Kylie Westlake stated that the primary concern is the welfare of the mother. "While we don't yet know what has happened, what we do know is that there must be a mother out there who is in real need of help − and she is our absolute priority at the moment," DCI Westlake said. Police are reviewing CCTV footage and checking with local hospitals, but are appealing for the mother or anyone who knows her identity to come forward.
"I really want to speak to her to make sure she's OK, and to ensure that she can get the help that she urgently needs," DCI Westlake added. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police via a major incident public contact page.
