Police Officer Sacked for Sexual Misconduct Including Rape Fantasies
A former Cheshire Police constable has been dismissed for gross misconduct after engaging in sexually explicit communication while on duty and pursuing a woman whose son he had arrested.
A police officer has been dismissed after fantasizing about rape, viewing pornography on duty, and exchanging a high volume of sexual messages with multiple women. Anthony Spelman, formerly a constable with Cheshire Police, was also found to have pursued a woman whose son he had previously arrested, engaging in sexual messages and meeting her after recognizing her on a dating site.
Chief Constable Mark Roberts stated that Spelman's actions constituted an abuse of his position for sexual purposes. The misconduct report indicated that between April and September 2023, Spelman exchanged up to 90 highly sexualized messages daily with 12 different women while on duty. These exchanges demonstrated a preoccupation with his own sexual matters in the workplace, according to the report.
Further findings revealed that Spelman accessed pornography on his personal mobile phone and shared his desire for rape role-playing with a woman while on shift. The misconduct hearing, held in April 2026, concluded that Spelman's behavior amounted to gross misconduct, leading to his dismissal without notice.
Chief Constable Mike Evans of Cheshire Police emphasized that officers swear an oath to uphold honesty and integrity. He stated that Spelman ignored these core guidelines and principles, believing he could act without consequence. Evans added that Spelman's actions fell well below the expected standards and have resulted in his dismissal and a ban from re-entering the profession. He asserted that such breaches of conduct will face similar consequences, and Spelman's behavior does not represent the values of the constabulary.
