Merseyside Police, in conjunction with Crimestoppers, are offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the murder of Sam Rimmer. The 22-year-old was shot and killed on August 16, 2022.
Ongoing Investigation
Four years have passed since Rimmer was with a group of friends in Dingle when four individuals on two electric bikes opened fire. The assailants used a Skorpion sub-machine gun, firing multiple shots. Rimmer sustained a gunshot wound to the back and was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after the incident, despite the efforts of emergency services. The attack occurred around 11:40 p.m. when the group of friends was reportedly summoned from a house on Lavrock Bank by a 'bike horn.'
Despite a comprehensive investigation that has seen ten people arrested and bailed, no charges have been filed in connection with Rimmer's death. Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath emphasized the ongoing determination of the police to bring those responsible to justice and expressed empathy for Rimmer's family and friends.
"As part of our investigation we have made a number of arrests and received a lot of information from the public. We just need the final piece of the puzzle," McGrath stated. He urged anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward, highlighting that it is not too late to provide crucial details.
Appeal for Information
Crimestoppers has extended its reward offer, seeking to incentivize the public to share information that could solve the case. The organization acknowledges that some individuals may be hesitant to speak directly with the police due to fear of repercussions. Crimestoppers assures complete anonymity for those who provide information through their secure website or by contacting their 24/7 UK Contact Centre.
Key questions posed by the investigation include the identities of the individuals on the electric bikes at the time of the shooting, who fired the weapon, and the current whereabouts of the firearm used in the attack. A spokesperson for Crimestoppers reiterated the charity's commitment to anonymity and its role in helping families find justice.
