Law enforcement officials have initiated an urgent search for Marwan Jumaa, a 20-year-old man who escaped from custody while being transported to North Manchester Hospital on Tuesday evening. Jumaa was serving an indefinite sentence at a secure hospital facility after being convicted of two robberies that resulted in serious injuries to two women.
Authorities describe Jumaa as a threat to himself and others. He was last seen in the Radcliffe area of Greater Manchester. Police have released CCTV footage of Jumaa and are urging the public not to approach him, but to call 999 immediately if they have any information regarding his whereabouts.
Jumaa is described as black, of skinny build, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with short dark hair. He is believed to have connections to Bury, Prestwich, and Crumpsall in Greater Manchester, as well as Leeds and London.
Detective Superintendent Amber Waywell of Greater Manchester Police stated that extensive resources are being utilized in the search to return Jumaa to lawful custody. While there is no current information suggesting an immediate intention to cause harm, he is considered a dangerous individual. Police are working around the clock to locate him, and any information, no matter how small, could be crucial to the investigation.
Prior to his sentencing, Jumaa had been held at HMP Belmarsh in London. He absconded from North Manchester Hospital where he was scheduled to receive medical treatment.
